Tea Treasures Trail Gift Box | 50 Tea Bags
Five celebrated Makaibari teas, each packed as ten individually wrapped pyramid bags. One box to explore the full range of the estate.
One estate. Five seasons. A lifetime of tea.
Makaibari was established in 1859 — the world's first tea factory. For over 160 years, the estate has produced some of the most coveted teas on earth from a single hillside in Kurseong.
The Trail box is designed for the curious: five teas that trace the full arc of the Makaibari year, from the first spring picking to the richer harvests of summer. Each variety tells you something different about what elevation, season, and the hands that picked it can do to a leaf.
Six ridges, three rivers, one estate. Everything in this box was grown, picked and packed inside that boundary.
What's inside
A harmonious union of nature and craft. This spring harvest black tea carries the delicate brightness of Darjeeling's first picking — floral, light, and luminous.
The celebrated muscatel character of Darjeeling's summer harvest. Rich, amber, with a distinctive grape-like sweetness that made Makaibari famous.
White Peony tea crafted from select two leaves and a bud from Makaibari's most remote, segregated plots. Pale, subtle, and endlessly delicate.
Makaibari's signature oolong — a semi-fermented tea that sits beautifully between a green and a black. Smooth, complex, produced only in small quantities.
The first green tea from Darjeeling, developed by Makaibari in the early 1980s. Pale green leaves interwoven with silver streaks; clean, grassy, meditative.
Every tea in this box is grown at Makaibari, the world's oldest tea factory estate, sitting at 1,500–2,000 metres in the Himalayan foothills of Kurseong. The estate practices biodynamic agriculture — no pesticides, no herbicides — in harmony with the surrounding forest.
Flush refers to the seasonal growth cycle that defines each tea's character. First Flush teas are the lightest and most aromatic; Second Flush carries depth and the famed muscatel note.
Each pyramid bag holds 2g of whole-leaf tea — enough for a generous 200ml cup. Follow the guide for each variety; the water temperature is the variable that matters most.
Heat the water
Black teas: 95°C. Oolongs: 90°C. Green and white: 75–85°C. Boiling water burns delicate leaves and turns the liquor bitter.
Place the bag
Set the pyramid bag in a warmed cup or glass. The pyramid shape lets leaves unfurl and circulate freely — no squeezing needed.
Pour and steep
Pour water gently over the bag, not directly onto it. Steep for the time given on each variety's label — start at the shorter end and adjust.
Remove and enjoy
Lift the bag by the string and allow it to drain naturally. A second steep at 30 seconds longer is worthwhile for the oolong and muscatel.
